Changsha maglev line greets 8th anniversary of commercial operation
The Changsha Maglev Express Line welcomed its eighth anniversary of commercial operation on May 6, 2024. As of May 5, it has ensured safe operation for 2,922 days and has witnessed a total of 436,418 train trips. The operating mileage reached nearly 8.07 million train-trip kilometers, with a total of 22.0428 million passenger trips. The fulfillment rate of operating plan was 99.8% while the on-schedule rate reaching 99.5%. It created the highest ever daily passenger flow of 18,012 passenger trips on May 1, 2021.
The data was announced by the Hunan Maglev Transportation Development Co., Ltd. on the same day.
The 18.55-kilometer-long Changsha Maglev Express Line connects the Changsha South Railway Station with the Changsha Huanghua International Airport. It is China's first maglev line commercial operation demonstration project with independent intellectual property rights. It boasts the world's longest maglev line under commercial operation for middle-to-low-speed magnetic-levitation train, and the world's first middle-to-low-speed maglev line operates commercially at a speed of 140 kilometers per hour.
The Changsha Maglev Express Line, a super hub of "air-rail combined transportation", has completed China's magnetic levitation technological transformation from laboratory to commercial application. In recent years, it has been speeding up and "upgrading" to further shorten the one-way running time and the intervals between trains. It has also improved the efficiency of train operation by reasonably adjusting the operating schedule, with all the operation indexes such as the on-schedule rate and the fulfillment rate of operating plan better than the national standards.
As a calling card of Hunan "Intelligent Manufacturing", the Hunan Maglev Transportation Development Co., Ltd. has completed a number of Hunan provincial science and technology major special projects and national key R&D programs, promoted more than 20 quality control (QC) projects, and carried out research on anti-freezing of conductor rails and snow shield devices for maglev trains.
